Project Overview

From December 2023 to December 2024, Maattey Sports, in partnership with Transparency Maldives and with funding from USAID through the PRIME Program, successfully implemented the project “Supporting Youth Development and Reduction of Risks and Vulnerabilities” in Kulhudhuffushi City.

Operating under the brand Sports for Social Change, the initiative aimed to empower youth, strengthen communities, and reduce vulnerabilities through the transformative power of sports.

Key Achievements

43 Coaches Trained

Football, Futsal, and Handball coaching camps developed 26 male and 17 female coaches, equipping them with technical, leadership, and mentoring skills.

300+ Youth Engaged

A total of 156 players participated in training camps, and 144 players competed in tournaments during the Sports Festival.

Parent Engagement on Substance Abuse Prevention

42 parents attended a specialized seminar on preventing youth substance abuse and strengthening family support systems.

Sports Ambassadors Identified

Two outstanding coaches were honored as Sports Ambassadors, serving as role models and community advocates.

Impact on the Community

The project went beyond sports. It created a culture of inclusivity, resilience, and social responsibility in Kulhudhuffushi:

  • Youth Empowerment – Sports provided alternatives to harmful behaviors while fostering teamwork, discipline, and leadership.

  • Parental Involvement – Families gained tools to protect children from risks such as drugs and negative peer pressure.

  • Community Unity– The Sports Festival and grassroots programs brought schools, academies, parents, and youth together in celebration and learning.

Acknowledgement of Local Support

The success of our initiatives would not have been possible without the invaluable support of our partners and the wider Kulhudhuffushi community. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Society for Kulhudhuffushi Youth (SKY) and Hirafus for their dedicated collaboration with Maattey Sports in making this project a reality.

We also wish to thank the Kulhudhuffushi City Council and the Kulhudhuffushi Stadium for their continued support and encouragement in providing the facilities and resources essential for our activities.

A special appreciation goes to the sports academies and schools in Kulhudhuffushi, whose active involvement and commitment have enriched the program and created meaningful opportunities for children and youth.

Together, with the dedication and spirit of our community, we are building a stronger, more including, and resilient future.
